The situation
Every raft-up in the cove runs the same math by two in the afternoon: five coolers, a dozen drinks, and not one still surface between the boat and the sandbar.
Eighteen feet of dual-layer foam, and every square inch of it moves — a hand on the edge, a cannonball forty feet away, a passing wake all read the same to a can standing on wet foam with nothing to hold it.
